Floor Repair

Hardwood floor repair in Johns Creek - Before Hardwood floors repair in Johns Creek - During Hardwood Floors Repair Johns Creek - After

Even though hardwood floors make a very durable floor covering, sometimes it can get damaged. Objects dropped on hardwood can dent it, furniture, appliances dragged on the floor can scratch it. Water leaks, flower pots set directly on the hardwood floors with no proper protection can stain the wood.

In most situations, the affected area of your hardwood floors can be removed and replaced with great looking results. The first thing that we will do , is establish the type/species of hardwood floors that we are working with. This might be a solid hardwood, prefinished or site finished, or it could be an engineered prefinished hardwood floor.

In order to achieve the best results, the exact same type and size of flooring must be used. The damaged area will be removed carefully, without damaging any adjacent floor boards. Then, then replacement hardwood will be cut to size and inserted, being attached with either glue, or nails, or sometimes both.

The most difficult repairs are the ones done on a glue-down hardwood floor. The results will vary on these types of flooring repairs, as the new boards cannot be nailed. The repair will have to be weighted down for at least 12 hours, to make sure that the new wood will be at the same level as the surrounding flooring.

If your floor  has been installed for some time, the new section that we are installing might not be a perfect match, even when using the exact type and size of  hardwood flooring.  Over time, with exposure to natural light and traffic, the color of the floor can slightly change. The existing finish on your hardwood floors will also react to these factors, and it will either fade, or amber, or both. That's why, depending on the results expected by you, we might suggest a complete refinish of the entire floor. A lot of times, that will be the only way to achieve a perfect result, with no matching issues between the existing hardwood floors, and the new section being installed.

On prefinished engineered floors, finding the exact type of flooring can be a real challenge, often impossible. That's because even if you remember the name of the flooring manufacturer and the name and color of your flooring, that product might have been discontinued. In these situations, if your floor allows it, we can replace the damaged hardwood flooring with a similar product(same size and species, but different color and finish), and then refinish the entire area. This would be the only way to have an even, level color and finish throughout your wood flooring.

Other situations when repairs might be needed would be : cabinets or wall repositioning, changing the layout of your space, air/heat registers being added , moved or removed , leaky back door ,fridge water connection, dishwasher, etc.
